The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As Sr. Manager, Capital Markets and Investments, you will help manage the company’s capital raising initiatives, execute financing transactions, mitigate financial risks, manage global retirement plans, compliance and reporting, and respective operations.   You will collaborate with the relevant cross functional teams and external parties including fund managers.   within the company’s financial operations, and manage relationships with credit investors and financial institutions. You will work closely with the Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer, CFO and other finance executives to develop and implement capital structure plans as well as necessary financial risk mitigation strategies that align with the company’s financial goals and risk appetite.


The successful candidate will support liquidity needs for 3M globally, manage global investment vehicles, lead funding / debt issuance activity, execute on the corporate share repurchase program, manage financial risks, and global retirement plans and related compliance. You will collaborate with the relevant teams in Treasury, Finance, Accounting, Tax, and Legal to actively manage global investments, related funding and liquidity requirements.

  • Developing, coordinating, and implementing end to end operations and compliance systems and processes to provide information to 3M Benefit Funds Investment’s (BFI’s) internal clients and external investment advisor and to protect the interests of 3M BFI clients (company retirement plans)
  • Designing and implementing robust and effective BFI’s internal controls
  • Effectively managing custody relationships for the 3M retirement plans managed by 3M BFI and all operations and investment reporting functions of 3M BFI
  • Preparing annual review of 3M BFI’s compliance manual and compliance activities
  • Actively participate in 3M BFI Committee discussions regarding investment decisions made by external investment advisor
  • Oversee daily cash flow activity in and out of trusts and ensure all payment and receipt activity is properly documented and authorized
  • Proactively developing strategic treasury recommendations, analysis of capital markets and liquidity management across the global enterprise
  • Assisting with planning capital raising activities, including debt issuances, equity offerings, and other financing arrangements, as applicable
  • Helping to evaluate various financing options and structures to optimize funding costs and manage capital requirements
  • Collaborate with investment banks, underwriters, and advisors to coordinate financing transactions, as appropriate
  • Developing sophisticated financial models to evaluate capital structure scenarios, cost of capital, and financial impact of various financing strategies
  • Leveraging modeling to assess risk and return profiles of debt and equity transactions, aiding data-driven decision-making
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company’s financial position while effectively managing any counterparty risk and monitor and adjust these strategies considering market conditions and adherence to corporate policy and objectives
  • Establish and maintain investment management policies, procedures, and guidelines; ensure compliance with applicable regulations, reporting requirements, and disclosure standards
  • Stay abreast of global economic trends, geopolitical events, and regulatory changes that could impact currency and interest rate markets.  Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on potential risks and opportunities
  • Ownership of global investment portfolio to preserve capital, manage counterparty risk and maximize yield
  • Develop strategies related to dividend policy, share repurchases, liquidity management, credit facilities, and liability management, as applicable
  • Ensure 3M’s trading execution is compliant with standards of good governance, including SOX controls and 3M’s internal policies; liaise with 3M’s external audit providers both proactively and upon request to facilitate assurance reviews
  • Communicating effectively with executive management regarding investment and debt portfolio performance
  • Act as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders in capital markets
  • Collaborate with the Treasury Technology team to implement and optimize capital markets-related systems and tools, as applicable


Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, or a related field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Ten (10) years of experience working in corporate environment and/or financial services, including significant exposure to capital markets in a private, public, government or military environment


Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • In-depth knowledge of global financial markets, capital instruments, debt/equity financing mechanisms, and risk management strategies
  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions
  • Comprehensive financial markets acumen, enterprise treasury knowledge, investment experience, familiarity with risk management programs and standard market methodologies / conventions
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills and the ability to make data-driven financial decisions
  • Role requires skills in Bloomberg
  • Preferred Treasury Management System experience (i.e. Kyriba)
  • Experience engaging with external parties, including external advisors/fiduciaries/banks
  • Strong experience influencing across the organization
  • Risk management analysis skills
  • Self-starter with ability to drive change
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with senior executives and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Advanced education or certification such as MBA, CTP, or CFA

The expected compensation range for this position is $177,961 – $217,508, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
