University of Minnesota Foundation Investment Advisors (UMFIA) is seeking a Senior Investment

Operations Analyst to join its team of ten investment and operations professionals. The position

supports the operational diligence and execution needed to provide upfront and ongoing monitoring

and reporting of UMFIA’s investments and will liaise with all members of the UMFIA team to achieve this

objective.

University of Minnesota Foundation Investment Advisors (UMFIA), is an independent nonprofit

subsidiary of the nonprofit University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF). UMF is a key partner with the

University of Minnesota in building and sustaining excellence among students and faculty and fueling

discovery in important areas on all University‐wide campuses. UMFIA was formed in 1998 to provide

dedicated professional management of UMF’s investments and manages the endowment across a broad

range of asset types. UMFIA aims to achieve an appropriate risk‐adjusted return on client assets by

linking intelligent asset allocation with skillful investment implementation. UMFIA utilizes a wide variety

of securities and partnerships in the execution of its investment strategy.

Position Summary:

The Operations team at UMFIA is at the forefront of the operational implementation and execution of

UMFIA’s internally developed portfolio strategy. Working alongside seasoned operations and

investment peers, the Operations team is challenged to ensure UMFIA and its investment managers

maintain a strong control environment while remaining nimble and creative in order to support the

team’s innovative approach to deal structuring.

The Senior Investment Operations Analyst will assist with all operational aspects covering the life cycle

of a UMFIA investment while working closely with other members of the operations team and the

UMFIA investment team. The Senior Investment Analyst will be involved in the upfront onboarding of

new investments, including the related determination and implementation of appropriate operational

controls for said investments. The Senior Investment Operations Analyst will develop relationships with,

and oversee the work of, third‐party vendors who support UMFIA’s investment objectives. This role will

also be responsible for creating financial/performance packages for select investments, validating fee

calculations, and assisting the Controller with ongoing accounting and reporting work for UMFIA and its

clients. The Senior Investment Operations Analyst will be expected to develop and maintain a thorough

understanding of UMFIA’s work product, policies, procedures and relationships. Additionally, this

position assists and/or backs up senior members of the operations team with a variety of tasks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 Lead the upfront operational onboarding and settlement processes for new investments and

service providers

 Manage relationships with external service providers, measure and monitor performance against

agreed upon service agreements, and hold providers accountable to UMFIA service level

expectations

 Ensure investment manager compliance to UMFIA documentation requests

 Create financial reporting packages for internally serviced investments

 Prepare UMFIA and client reporting packages per desired cadence

 Review investment activity posted to investment manager bank accounts

 Identify, develop and promote process documentation, policies and procedures that support the

quality and effectiveness of UMFIA investment operations practices

 Promote knowledge‐sharing and training of operations staff

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

 Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in investment operations, accounting,

performance reporting, and working with third party service providers

 Strong critical thinking skills and tenacity when researching potential issues, reconciling

inconsistencies, and resolving problems

 Experience with a Windows PC environment and with Microsoft Office suite, particularly

Microsoft Excel

Compensation:

A competitive base salary and annual incentive award are commensurate with experience and earnings

history. UMFIA provides a strong benefits package.

Working Conditions:

This is a typical office environment in which employees use office equipment like personal computers,

fax machines, copiers, telephones; stand or sit at a desk for long periods of time (2‐3) hours; may need

to lift and move documents and supplies (not to exceed 25 lbs.); and bend to file or retrieve documents.

Our organization follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the

office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the

office is encouraged during the onboarding process and when working on tasks that require a high

degree of collaboration.
