POSITION SUMMARY:

Our highly mission-focused Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Investment Operations Analyst to join our team. The person in this role will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Foundation’s direct Mission Related investments (MRI) portfolio, including valuation, cash management, trade processing, reconciliation, performance reporting, SEC reporting and filing requirements for public direct investments, and coordination of issued stock certificates for private investments. You will work closely with the investment team, external service providers, and other internal stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective execution of all MRI activities. This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD, and requires 2-3 days per week in the Bethesda office.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the operational aspects of CFF direct MRI portfolio, including semi-annual valuation of direct private investments, cash management, trade processing, reconciliation, and performance reporting.
  • Work closely with the Finance department to ensure investment values and cash flow activities are accurately recorded within the Foundation’s accounting system.
  • Manage SEC reporting and filing requirements for public direct investments, and coordination of issued stock certificates for private investments.
  • Develop and improve operational processes and procedures under guidance of the Director of Investment Operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Work closely with the investment team to understand investment objectives, processes, structures, and constraints, ensuring operational processes align accordingly.
  • Aid in managing relationships with external service providers, including custodians, administrators, brokers, and stock issuing agencies such as Carta or Continental Securities.
  • Serve as a knowledge resource on investment operations, providing guidance and support to other team members as needed.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and initiatives as required.
  • Process incoming communications from portfolio companies and initiate proper workflows for related actions, including investment related transactions, and wires payments.
  • Coordinate execution of new investments’ legal agreements and other documents as needed.
  • Manage the onboarding process for new investments to ensure accurate inclusion in all internal systems and tracking of relevant terms. Maintain documents in the Foundation’s CRM system.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments to develop financial dashboards and to execute day-to-day operations and implementation of best practices.
  • Support audit processes.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field; master’s degree in finance, CFA, or CAIA designation is a plus.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in investment operations and portfolio management, preferably at a Venture Capital or Private Equity firm.
  • Experience with cash management, trade processing, valuation analyses, and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of venture investments including equity, convertible notes, and SAFEs.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including SEC reporting, and filing requirements for public direct investments.
  • Experience with coordination of issued stock certificates process.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Director, Investments Operations. No direct reports.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.
  • No heavy lifting required.
  • Minimal travel (e.g., 2x/yr.) to conferences and meetings, as necessary.
