The Senior Investment Manager is an important member of TNC’s Office of Investments, working as a generalist in the areas of private markets investment and operational due diligence, asset allocation, portfolio construction, co-investments, and investment operations. The Office of Investments’ mission is to support the funding of TNC’s global conservation priorities by increasing the organization’s purchasing power through prudent and sustainable investment management. The Office of Investments, under the leadership of TNC’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), works on all aspects of the management and monitoring of the endowment and other long-term pools of capital in excess of $4B. The long-term portfolio (LTP) is invested with 60+ external investment managers across several asset classes and strategies, including public equities, fixed income, hedged strategies, and private investments.

The Senior Investment Manager plays an integral role by significantly expanding TNC’s investment and operational due diligence and co-investment capabilities, while also contributing to the goal of building a solid investment operations infrastructure. Alongside the Investment and Operations team, the Senior Investment Manager will conduct due diligence on existing and prospective managers, take a leadership role in our co-investment program, research investment trends/themes, write detailed investment recommendations, take an active role in all aspects of the investment team decision-making process, and assist in executing some operational duties. This role also involves interaction with other TNC departments and external entities including investment managers, administrators, legal advisors, custodian bank, and other service providers.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
•    Actively contribute to investment team decision-making process and drive team thinking in manager selection, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and overall strategy.
•    Source and evaluate new investment opportunities based on risk/return, manager caliber, organizational structure, and portfolio fit.
•    Support the Directors of Investments and CIO in portfolio monitoring, manager evaluation, and investment research.
•    Monitor TNC’s investment portfolio and rigorously examine the drivers of investment performance.
•    Communicate team thinking on complex financial topics through written investment reports/recommendations and verbal presentations.
•    Represent TNC externally at manager meetings, investment conferences, and industry events.
•    Manage data flow and output from investment analytics platforms such as Venn, S&P Capital IQ, and Backstop.
•    Assist in the investment operations activities of a global, multi-asset class portfolio.
•    Contribute to the portfolio performance reporting and attribution, including performance analytics, exposures, and benchmarks.
•    Complete performance and market value updates and track other quantitative and qualitative data fields for investments.
•    Support the office’s impact investing efforts by capturing relevant data directly from investment managers and leveraging analytics from LP Analyst.
•    Manage documentation and oversight of external manager terms (fees, liquidity, etc.).
•    Support the Chief Investment Officer in performing other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years’ related experience or equivalent combination.
•    Experience sourcing, evaluating, and monitoring external investment managers across a broad range of private investment strategies.
•    Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
•    Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•    MBA, CFA, CAIA, CPA, and/or relevant advance degrees or professional investment qualifications preferred.
•    Deep knowledge of investment strategies (especially private markets and co-investments), structures, institutional investment management, and financial markets.
•    Intellectual curiosity and passionate about investment management and operations.
•    Strong research, analytical, and quantitative capabilities.
•    Process oriented, with aptitude for data analysis and documentation.
•    Objective and comfortable holding an independent opinion.
•    A collegial work style and a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks.
•    Experience in performance reporting, financial reporting, or portfolio accounting.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Experience with Backstop Solutions.
•    Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
•    Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and being a self-starter.
•    Knowledge of current trends in investment management/financial markets/investment operations.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $161,500 – $205,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
