The Portfolio Management function directs capital of the monthly-liquid funds into direct private equity deals, direct credit deals, and secondary portfolio transactions. We also determine the use of balance sheet and currency hedging as components of overall risk management. Senior Analyst will work closely with the Evergreen Portfolio Management team members and investment team leaders to develop and implement Hamilton Lane’s semi-liquid open ended funds’ portfolio strategy. They are responsible for the creation and maintenance of quantitative models, analytical tools, and data driven analysis to support portfolio construction decisions (asset allocation, investment pacing, opportunity allocation, structuring, liquidity), evaluate the drivers of portfolio returns, and respond to client research questions regarding private markets. Senior analysts will apply their comprehensive knowledge of private markets to advise clients and prospects on matters related to semi-liquid funds. They will also work closely with Strategic Technology colleagues to develop and test new portfolio models and datasets.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

 

  • Develop / enhance portfolio models (cash flow forecasting, pacing, portfolio optimization, etc.), performance analysis tools, and performance attribution techniques for our client base
  • Work with investment team leadership & senior executives to establish Hamilton Lane’s portfolio construction framework & best practices. Use data driven, quantitative research to propose enhancements to the portfolio construction framework
  • Respond to client queries and requests for analysis using Hamilton Lane’s proprietary datasets
    • Analyze third party reports, news, and academic research on private markets
    • Train, mentor and oversee junior analysts.
  • Assist in developing solutions to challenges of managing a new evergreen solutions.
  • Integrate with investment selection teams in direct equity, direct private credit and secondaries and opine on portfolio fit for investment
  • Assist with implementation of currency hedging to target risk tolerances
  • Work with client and business development teams to support growth of monthly-liquid products, including investor communications and queries
  • Support related projects of strategic importance to the firm

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS; Education and/or Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience working in financial services, consulting or data analytics. Familiarity with private markets or other alternative assets preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate creative solutions to unstructured problems.
  • An understanding of basic quantitative financial concepts, such as performance calculations, risk analysis, valuation techniques, portfolio optimization techniques, and / or statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency with analyzing and modeling financial data in Excel
  • Experience with statistical programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python, etc.) and / or data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlikview, PowerBI, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to lead small teams, supervise / train junior analysts.
  • Experience interacting directly with clients, senior executives, and stakeholders on complex topics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
