Wellington has been investing in alternatives since 1994, began investing in private markets in 2003, and launched its first dedicated private equity fund in 2014. Today, we manage approximately $8B+ in assets across four private equity funds in the late-stage growth and venture capital markets, and we aspire to be recognized as a top-tier firm in several segments of the private market that include venture capital, private real estate, and private credit. As part of the continued expansion of our private investment capabilities, we are seeking to recruit a Head of Private Investments to join our Private Investments Leadership Team and drive our commercial strategy.

Investor Relations is part of our Client Platform at Wellington Management Company. The function, at a high-level, is responsible for bringing together client, product and fund expertise within Hedge Funds and Private Investments to ensure maximum focus on the strategic growth initiatives for the firm.

The Head of Private Investments, Investor Relations, will work in partnership with the Private Investments Leadership team to manage, develop and expand our Private Investments’ business and lead the design and execution of our ‘go to market’ strategy.

This is a leadership role with reporting to the leaders of the Private Investments business on the Client and Investment Platforms and management responsibility of our global specialist Privates investments product, sales and fund teams. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our marketing, client servicing, legal and compliance and operations experts, as well as partner with our generalist Business Development, Relationship Management and Consultant Relations teams to ensure we are accessing our global client base in the most effective way possible.

This leader will need to create strong commercial focus and tactical muscle within their direct reporting lines, and across the broader firm, to ensure we maximize our growth opportunities, achieve operational excellence for our clients and maintain the highest fiduciary standards.  The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in business judgement, fundraising, marketing strategy, communication, and a strong background in the Private Investments asset class. This position may be based in any one of our global offices, including New York, London and Boston.  We expect this leader to spend considerable time working with both the investment and the sales teams which are predominantly in Boston, New York and London.  We are open to flexible work arrangements and geography. Key responsibilities include:

•    Strategic thought partner to the Private Investments business and leadership team to manage product offerings and expand private investment capabilities across asset classes
•    Develop and own the execution of the Private Investments distribution strategy, including differentiating and positioning strategies relative to those of competitors and identifying opportunities to develop new and innovative products
•    Ensure strong fiduciary standards are being applied in product, marketing and sales-related decision making and supported through robust procedures and controls; partner with experts in legal and compliance to ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements
•    Develop and manage near-term and long-term priorities with a focus on the go-to-market strategy timelines, pre-marketing, and fundraising plans; identify appropriate vehicle structures to support global demand
•    Ensure the operating model works efficiently across the product development, sales and servicing lifecycle and collaborate with key stakeholders to put the right infrastructure in place to support and drive scalable growth
•    Guide and support efforts to increase the Private Investments brand through content, thought leadership, events, media, etc. both in the private market ecosystem as well as with LPs and consultants
•    Engage with clients, prospects and consultants and effectively communicate the investment philosophy, capabilities and performance of our private investment products
•    Lead, manage, and mentor a diverse team of professionals creating a team that becomes a destination of choice for world class Private Investment Product and Sales professionals

This is a senior leadership role in a fast growing and evolving business that requires the ability to think strategically, drive commercial success, apply sound business judgement, collaborate effectively across different groups of stakeholders and lead high performing teams.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following qualifications:
•    Demonstrable (likely 15+ years) relevant professional experience in leading Private Investments client facing teams
•    Proven experience developing a commercial strategy and successfully raising assets in the alternatives space
•    In depth understanding of the needs of a broad range of clients across institutional channels, including corporates, public pensions, and endowments and foundations. Solid understanding of the wealth channel is a preference
•    Outstanding collaboration and teamwork skills; able to work successfully and build trust with very experienced, passionate people, and with multiple functions across the globe
•    Proven experience of attracting, retaining, developing and motivating talent and fostering diverse and inclusive teams, oriented towards coaching, mentoring and delivering feedback, outstanding leadership and management skills; ability to manage remote individuals/teams,
•    Highly organized, able to multitask, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously; focused on results and willing to roll up their sleeves to get things done
•    Initiative, creativity, persistence, and consultative skills are particularly important in this role

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 100,000 – 225,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.


Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
