General description: Join the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company as a Portfolio Manager IV-V! Work involves developing and implementing strategies for investing in real assets strategies, researching, and analyzing investment firms and funds. Evaluates macro and micro economic information and market conditions. Recommends strategies and specific investments for real assets and private markets portfolios. Develops and manages relationships with institutional investors and general partners. Serves as Senior Portfolio Manager for Real Estate and Real Assets for all the portfolios that the Trust Company manages. This position reports directly to the CIO and works closely with the CIO in devising and implementing strategies, manager selection, sourcing and performing due diligence on co-investments, portfolio construction, and portfolio monitoring on real assets and private markets investments.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree finance, accounting, mathematics, business, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in private market transactions, institutional investment management, investment banking, conducting research or quantitative analysis work, overseeing the administration of an investment program, engineering, math or related field.
  • Superior risk management capabilities.
  • Exceptional quantitative skills to evaluate fund and portfolio performance.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Well versed in financial applications (e.g. Excel).
  • A team-oriented attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Designation as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Charted Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA)
  • Exceptional quantitative skills to evaluate fund and portfolio performance

Substitutions Education requirement may be substituted with up to four (4) years of related experience.  

In this role you will: 

Portfolio Management and Due Diligence

  • Gather and assess information from various sources, including analysis of economic and business cycles and trends, and recommend strategies for construction of complex private real assets portfolios.
  • Source, screen, evaluate and perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of prospective asset managers, strategies, and funds.
  • Report directly to the CIO on real assets strategies, including monitoring of existing strategies and recommendation of new strategies. Source and conduct due diligence on co-investment opportunities across real assets or related private markets investments.
  • Coordinate with consultants to develop tactical asset allocations plans for assigned portfolios.
  • Participate in development of opportunistic and strategic investment themes and plans.
  • Keep the CIO apprised of real assets market investment matters that merit increased attention.
  • Prepare reports and present investment recommendations to Investment Committee.
  • Recommend and assist with negotiation of investment management terms and conditions related to investment managers in assigned portfolio.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Consults or coordinates with portfolio managers, analysts, investment accounting, legal counsel, custodian, and third-party advisors and consultants.
  • Conduct ongoing due diligence and provide day-to-day oversight of external investment managers.
  • Assist in monitoring for compliance with investment management agreements and related schedules.
  • Assist with development of investment policies and procedures and ensure compliance with existing policy and regulation.
  • Generate monthly/quarterly investment reports and organize discussions to formally review the portfolios.
  • Maintain and update information held in internal systems on existing investment management firms and strategies.
  • Perform and evaluate qualitative and quantitative analysis of existing managers and strategies.
  • Prepare reports and analysis needed to recommendation sizing and allocation decisions.
  • Initiate and coordinate communication between external managers and the custodian, consultants, administrators, service providers and TTSTC Risk and Accounting groups.
  • May represent TTSTC and serve on Limited Partnership advisory boards or committees.
