Business Overview:

Corporate & Institutional Banking (“CIB”) offers clients capital markets, financing and advisory services. It is a globally recognized leader in many areas of expertise including structured financing and derivatives, across a variety of asset classes.

Financial Institutions Coverage (“FIC”) is a global coverage organization reporting directly to the Head of CIB.  FIC is responsible for the origination, development and management of trusted global client relationships that thrive. FIC aims to be recognized as strategic client advisors, focusing on a “One Bank Approach” to protect and build existing client wallet share, while selectively attracting new high potential clients. FIC also seeks to globalize client relationships through building strong cross-selling between regions and business lines, such as Global Markets and BNP Paribas Securities Services business (“BP2S”). FIC is committed to act as champions for BNP Paribas’ Sustainability and Digital agendas with clients, and to be the first line of defense for the firm from a regulatory, risk and compliance perspective.

Globally, FIC is organized in three regional hubs (London, New York, Hong Kong) with over 240 professionals worldwide, based in over 30 countries. FIC is focused on five institutional client sectors Insurance, Banks & Financial Intermediaries, Investors (Hedge funds, Asset Managers and Pension funds), Official Institutions (including Central Banks and Sovereign Wealth Funds) and Financial Sponsors. As the activities of institutional clients converge across sectors (Insurers/asset managers; financial sponsors/insurance, etc.) the sector bankers dynamically collaborate to ensure the firm understands and is responsive to the client needs as these evolve.

The FIC US Investor Coverage team is comprised of approximately 10 individuals predominantly located in NY.

The role reports to the Head of Coverage for the U.S. Investor Sector and will also work closely with the Global Head of Investor Coverage. As a Senior Business Officer responsible for a specific portfolio of clients, the candidate is expected to:

Drive client strategy and dialogue:

  • Drive the global client strategy across products and geographies.
  • Originate new business opportunities across the BNPP global platform (private and public; locally and globally)
  • Establish and manage relationships with the C-Suite, Board and other decision makers and influencers, and be recognized as a Strategic Advisor
  • Develop strategic content to create meaningful dialogue and enable that the firm can access all opportunities thereby driving revenue across the BNP Paribas platform (Corporate Banking including advisory and financing, Global Markets product areas)
  • Drive business development, multi-product initiatives and cross-sell opportunities with Investor clients across asset classes across Platforms (Global Markets, Securities Services, and Investment Partners), Regions (Americas, EMEA and APAC), and Poles (Investment Partners, IFS, and Real Estate)
  • Institutionalize core client relationships with Executive and Global Markets Sponsors, and with relevant product partners.
  • Cultivate a “One Bank” approach to promote the full scope of the firm’s capabilities.
  • Protect and build market share/ revenues among the defined clients portfolio
  • Develop and maintain updated client action plans in coordination with CIB stakeholders (Global Markets, Securities Services, etc.), including setting shared revenue targets across CIB business lines.
  • Oversee allocation of scarce resources including research and strategy time, major corporate events, senior BNPP management time, access to balance sheet, lines of credit, capital and risk limits

Provide expertise on the needs of the Investor Client sector:

  • Have an expert understanding of the US Investor client base, specifically for Hedge Funds, including regulatory and investment trends.
  • Be a leading voice within the firm on industry trends and needs across client strategies to promote ideas responsive to those needs which can be monetized with BNP Paribas’ capabilities.

Manage cross-business line/cross-client functionality:

  • Work with the Global and US heads of Investor Coverage, as well as peer bankers within the region and worldwide, in jointly driving the Sector strategy, ambition and capabilities.
  • Act as a Senior Business Officer, with ultimate accountability for compliance, regulatory, KYC and control requirements
  • Coordinate activities across Business Lines to ensure best practice, global consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise with relevant internal functions to run deals: Risk, Legal, Compliance, KYC
  • Build relationships/partnerships with other teams and support functions, such as Client Integration, Due Diligence, Operations Client Relationship Management, Client Development, Account Management, Business Management
  • Help manage and develop Analyst, Associate and VP team members.
  • Represent the brand as an ambassador, while upholding the firm’s code of conduct

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Existing C-suite client relationships with key US Investor Clients, specifically Hedge Funds
  • Experience and capability to present individually, and with BNP Paribas Senior Mgmt., to client C Suite including those running the business operations and those focusing on investments and risk management.
  • Proven track record in driving results with top Hedge Funds
  • Experience in delivering core investment banking services including M&A, Financing (DCM, Loans, Structured Equity), product development.
  • Prior experience/familiarity in cross selling a Global Markets footprint including Equity Cash and Derivatives, Prime Services, Rates, Foreign Exchange, Investment Grade and High Yield Credit
  • Deep understanding of credit /risk issues of Investor Clients
  • Conduct and risk awareness – understands the impact of conduct in the industry, the firm and acts accordingly.
  • 10 years+ of previous work experience at a major global investment bank covering Hedge Funds from either a product or RM coverage perspective.
  • Knowledge of Hedge Fund clients regarding business models, capital structures and regulatory matters
  • MBA or advanced degree in finance or a related field

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $340,000 to $417,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
