Aflac Asset Management, LLC, (d.b.a. Aflac Global Investments or GI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aflac, Incorporated (Aflac). GI is headquartered in New York’s financial district at 100 Wall Street and is the organization responsible for the overall investment activities of Aflac and its subsidiaries in Japan, the U.S., and Bermuda. With ~150 employees globally, GI manages an investment strategy focused on maximizing long-term returns with a focus on preservation of capital, subject to our affiliated insurance company’s objectives for income, asset-liability management, liquidity, and capital. GI is responsible for generating approximately $3.5 billion of annual investment income from Aflac’s general accounts from a mix of public and private assets (including strategic partnerships) across multiple geographies and currencies. As of year-end 2022, Aflac’s total general account portfolio was $111 billion.

Summary Of RoleThe Global Head of Externally Managed Debt, Strategic Partnerships, and Business Development will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Global Chief Investment Officer, President Aflac Global Investments. This high-profile senior executive level position will be part of GI’s Executive Committee, the senior management team responsible for oversight of all GI business activities including the development, implementation, and management of investment strategies, and general management of GI as a distinct asset management entity within the Aflac organization. The ideal candidate will be immediately additive to the dynamics of the executive committee by establishing themselves as a trusted senior colleague contributing across the GI platform and able to expand their leadership role. Specific Responsibilities Of The Position Are Summarized Below

  • Global Head of Externally Managed Debt. The continued development and management of the third party external manager investment platform (EMP) which includes oversight of a current team of three portfolio managers and three analysts managing private debt strategies totaling ~$13 billion at year-end 2022 in middle market lending, real estate loans including transitional real estate, and infrastructure debt currently invested across ten distinct third-party managers. Responsibilities include identifying new investment outlets to support GI’s overall objectives through existing or new managers.
  • Global Head of Strategic Partnerships. Executive level oversight of current and future strategic partnerships with external managers to include providing support to the GI portfolio management team managing the asset allocation to the partner consistent with partnership agreements and Aflac current objectives, collaborating with senior management of partner companies to accelerate growth of their business in a manner that adds value for all partners, seeking opportunities to enhance Aflac’s value creation through optimal use of our substantial balance sheet allocation to our partner managers.
  • Global Head of Business Development. Working closely with the Global CIO and President of GI to develop, implement, and manage the continued evolution of the CONFIDENTIAL GI growth plan focused on the consolidation and acceleration strategic partnerships. Additional detail to be shared with prospective qualified candidates upon execution of a non-disclosure agreement.
  • ExCo Member. Senior level participation in a collaborative manner in the design, implementation, and management of portfolio strategies across all portfolios, asset classes, and clients. In addition to senior management responsibility for assets managed by third-party managers, the candidate is expected to contribute as a seasoned investor to all portfolio management activity including new investment opportunities and strategies to advance GI’s overall financial objectives. The candidate will be a voting member of GI’s Investment Strategy Group and will be expected to contribute to Board level finance and investment committee presentations. The role will collaborate across GI’s investment professionals in both U.S. and Japan, key support functions including Risk, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Accounting, Finance, & HR, as well as other key stakeholders across Aflac.

Candidate ProfileThe qualified individual will be an accomplished investment and asset management professional, with a proven history of developing, implementing, and managing investment portfolios in a multi-asset environment while leading a team of front office professionals. The individual will have portfolio management and direct investing experience dealing with regulatory and legal requirements, preferably in an insurance company or an asset manager with insurance clients. Experience managing outsourced portfolio mandates and to supporting external manager relationships is preferred. The candidate should have deep knowledge of macro-economics, investment capital markets, portfolio construction, asset-liability management, and the ability to appropriately identify relevant risks associated with asset management for insurance company clients. This includes exposure to investment grade corporate bonds, below investment grade instruments, corporate lending, real estate and other infrastructure, and structured transactions in both public and private markets.The qualified individual must demonstrate and possess strong people management and leadership skills, an ability to manage with cultural sensitivity, preferably gained by experience working within a global matrix reporting organization. The qualified individual will have established experience providing asset management advisory and investment leadership. They must have established critical thinking and quantitative skills and be capable of participating in the development of investment, analytical and reporting frameworks, and other processes and platforms in a growing asset management business. Candidate must possess strong oral and written communication and relationship skills. The ideal candidate is committed to personal growth and development with a desire and ability to take on additional senior duties as Aflac’s and GI’s business needs grow.Key ResponsibilitiesGlobal Head of Externally Managed Debt

  • Provide senior executive level leadership to a team of investment professionals overseeing all aspects of outsourced debt portfolios.
  • Manage existing and new third-party managers towards the achievement of Aflac and portfolio objectives and monitor performance and provide insightful attribution analysis.
  • Manage and monitor portfolio cash flows including new money deployment, redemption activity, commitments, and invested balances while maintaining compliance with portfolio and risk guidelines.
  • Deliver relevant and in-depth quantitative and qualitative intelligence on global markets, asset classes, asset managers, and competitors that incorporates robust quantitative and qualitative analysis essential to creating and maintaining robust knowledge of asset classes including relationships with new and existing external asset managers.
  • Research, develop and recommend new and existing investment opportunities that incorporate Aflac’s and GI’s objectives.
  • Solidify and maintaonal mentform.perational aspects of the extenal teamsrnal management manager relationships and regularly review manager portfolios and monitor manager performance including adherence to investment management and service level agreements and required portfolio guidelines.
  • Own and lead internal review and approval processes and investment due diligence responsibilities for new external mandates and investment strategies.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders including the GI ExCo, portfolio managers, analysts, compliance, finance, middle and back office, and other GI staff members, Global and Regional Chief Investment Officers, business unit heads, and business partners across Aflac Inc., Aflac Japan, Aflac US, and Aflac Re.
  • Perform special projects as required including participation in GI and Aflac work streams.

Global Head of Strategic Partnerships

  • Serve as primary liaison between partners, GI, and Aflac on all issues related to portfolio and business management.
  • Provide senior leadership to the EMP portfolio managers in overseeing the sizable portfolio commitment made to each partner.
  • Be a member of the Aflac and GI representation on the governance body for each partnership.
  • Manage all aspects of the partnership agreement related to Aflac and GI commitments consistent with partnership agreement and Aflac and GI objectives.
  • Suggest and support various initiatives to accelerate partner growth by leveraging Aflac and GI resources and capabilities, when appropriate.
  • Prepare Board-level reports and updates on partnership performance against portfolio and other financial objectives.

Global Head of Business Development

  • Oversee development of a detailed business plan to support the GI growth strategy.
  • Provide on-going management, leadership, and oversight of plan implementation.
  • Executive level oversight of the strategy to ensure objectives are met or exceeded.
  • Provide Board-level reports and updates related to all aspects of strategy development, business plan approval and implementation, progress milestones, and performance attribution against objectives.

Qualifications And ExperienceThe qualified individual will have credible experience and available references demonstrating the following attributes:

  • Experience as a member of a senior leadership team managing investments that successfully supported business objectives in a highly regulated environment. Knowledge of ALM for insurance companies is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with knowledge and experience across global economic and investment markets.
  • Trusted team player comfortable collaborating across multiple global teams, both as the recipient and provider of input and value-added feedback.
  • Strategic thought leader with excellent quantitative and analytical skills, superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work across time zones and cultures, and travel including internationally.

Along With The Following Qualifications

  • Minimum of fifteen years of financial services experience, including at least ten years of investment and portfolio management with a wide range of credit and fixed income investing strategies (public, private and growth assets) is required, within or for an insurance company strongly welcomed.
  • Undergraduate university credentials in Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or related field required; advanced academic degree and/or professional study (CFA, CAIA, CPA) or relevant field a plus; advanced degree is preferred but not required.
  • Capability in navigating and effectively handling project management including deliveries, socialization, adaptability, and governance in complex organizations.

Please note: Aflac Global Investments hybrid working environment requires a minimum of 3 days in the office each weekThe range on this positions is: $350,000 – $400,000This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
