The Investment Director (ID) role is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic investment team that oversees and manages client portfolios for a mix of financial institutions (e.g. pension funds, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds) and corporate clients. The role offers the opportunity to develop and exercise skills in investment strategy development, portfolio management, investment research and client engagement at the C-suite and Boardroom level. This ID role will be specifically joining a global team split across London and Boston, working with client portfolios globally. The scope of investments is unconstrained and will range from traditional long only asset classes to all types of alternatives spanning Private Equity, Venture Capital, Private Credit, Real Assets and Hedge Funds, taking advantage of CA’s industry leading alternatives expertise.

The ID will be involved in developing appropriate financial and investment goals for each client, investment strategy formulation, and implementing the strategy through the selection of investments across all relevant asset classes. As an independent investment advisory and management firm, CA implements investment strategy via the selection of external managers offering products in various asset classes. CA interfaces with thousands of managers every year and tracks over 20,000, ensuring a rich investment universe from which the most compelling ideas are selected for client portfolios. Investment Directors will get the opportunity to conduct due diligence on investment opportunities, select and recommend appropriate managers for investments, and evaluate performance of individual strategies/funds and client portfolios. The role will also involve managing a team of associates and interacting with senior client representatives as the ID develops their knowledge and skillset.


  • Create and develop diversified portfolios to enable increased returns and lower volatility consistent with time horizon, risk tolerance, and income needs for 8-10 client portfolios at any given time
  • Conduct analyses, prepare materials and direct clients on investment and financial issues; lead and coordinate analytical projects
  • Work with and present directly to clients; develop relationships with clients, including Investment Committees, CIO/CFO of client institutions, outside advisors.
  • Select and evaluate investment managers for virtually all asset classes, including alternative assets such as venture capital, private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real assets and certain niche strategies
  • Represent Cambridge Associates externally through marketing presentations, conferences and other business development opportunities
  • Oversight of analyst/associate level team members, which includes training and mentoring needs, performance reviews, and career development.

  • BSc degree (minimum 2.1 Hons) required
  • MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred
  • Appropriate investment knowledge and experience, gained from work at an investment firm or a large institutional investor, or a family office
  • Demonstrated investment knowledge and analytical skills
  • High intellectual curiosity towards seeking out strong investment ideas to drive portfolio returns
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and commercial acumen to drive the overall growth of the CA business
  • High energy level and comfort with working in a fast paced environment covering several parallel streams of work simultaneously
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
