The Senior Alternative Strategist / Head of Alternatives Manager Research manages the research and due diligence efforts related to private investments, integrates private investments into the broader Blue Trust investment offering, educates advisors on our private offerings, and represents the firm to prospects and clients.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Sources, diligences, evaluates, and recommends private managers spanning multiple categories including equities, credit, real assets, derivatives, and alternatives.

2. Serves as primary contact in the Investment department and primary initial screener for any new illiquid fund opportunities.

3. Assists in designing, maintaining, updating, and improving the company’s proprietary strategy models.

4. Researches new illiquid opportunities within different asset classes or investment strategies.

5. Assists with management of large institutional and high net worth relationships which includes client updates, prospect pitches, operational implementation, custom asset/manager allocation, glide path design, report customization, and model performance tracking.

6. Coordinates investment offering, strategy, and reporting with outside partners, such as but not limited to iCapital, Brightlight, Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, BlackRock, and Sovereign’s.

7. Works with Compliance and Communications departments in design, preparation, and approval of marketing materials, including investment decks and conference calls, strategy videos, economic outlook letters, whitepapers, performance reports, custom presentations, and an internal investments blog.

8. Effectively communicates the company’s investment philosophy and current outlook via conference calls, written materials, webinars, on the corporate intranet, and in-person advisors and clients.

9. Maintains the approved investments list for illiquid investments.

10. Works with Investment Operations and other pertinent home office departments to ensure private investments are implemented successfully.

11. Manages support mailbox used to assist advisors with inquiries about our investment outlook, strategies, funds, the general market environment, or other client questions.

12. Understands the financial planning philosophy and biblical basis upon which Blue Trust serves its client base and applies these principles in personal finances.

13. Approaches work, interactions and relationships in a manner consistent with the Company’s Core Values.

14. Maintains the highest Compliance standards by adhering to the company’s Human Resources guidelines, Compliance policies and procedures, professional designation standards, and industry’s regulatory standards to mitigate risk to the company.

Requirements
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to organize and express thoughts clearly and concisely

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Advanced degree in related field preferred
  • 5+ years of private markets investment experience, ideally at a relevant institution (e.g., endowment, pension, consultant, fund of funds)

Certifications:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or progress towards the designation
  • CAIA preferred
