The Head of Investment Data Content Management is a critical new responsibility that will serve as the business owner for the investment intelligence platform on Snowflake. The Head of Investment Data Content Management will partner closely with and on behalf of Investments stakeholders including portfolio managers, asset allocation, structuring, and global investment functions. This individual will understand investment-related business concepts, identify and oversee design and development and implementation of foundational data assets, coordinate across the entire Liberty Mutual Investments organization to help centralize and build out our foundational Investments data.

As a member of the Liberty Mutual Investments Data and Analytics Practice, you are responsible for designing and overseeing the development of Investment data assets including reference data, master data, portfolio data, external data, ratings.  To accomplish this, you will partner with business and technical functions and data product owners to make available macro and asset level data on our Snowflake data platform.  You will employ a multi-faceted approach to deliver foundational data including oversight of data engineering development, identifying and delivering tools, automation and processes to make data available for consumption by business users.

Key Responsibilities

Be responsible for Investments data design and oversee data engineers.  This includes owning the investment data landscape including the Portfolio Data and underlying data including cash, holdings, transactions, master data and closely coordinating with and understanding the requirements and data flows of key stakeholders across LMI include the asset allocation, portfolio management, technology, and Global Investment Services teams (Product, Operations, Finance, Treasury, Compliance, etc).

  • Quickly develop the business and product knowledge required to support the Investment data function and related governance activities of LMI’s $100B portfolio with a strategy primarily focused on high quality fixed income assets, private and growth credit and equity; incorporate into the core investment data design the ability to successfully meet timely, accurate data needs across multiple user personas.
  • Design the Investments data content and develop into a cohesive, joinable eco-system of data and analytics which can be obtained via self-serve consumption; oversee and dictate design of data flows to consumers including internal data and data from third-party applications and vendors (Blackrock, Moody’s, etc.)
  • Set the strategic direction, design principles, implementation approach to deliver the golden source investment data content sets and master data
  • Build team of data content designers (both onshore and offshore) and provide direction to data engineering squads.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure data best practices are designed and implemented proactively and that Investments data is accessible with appropriate channels of access controls; support data dictionary & definition cataloguing, including incorporating enterprise data domains and elements as required.
  • Act as primary business owner of reference data on behalf of Investments including such as ratings and asset hierarchies (both internal and external), public and private companies associated with the assets that LMI holds as well as making the investable universe available to business users for pre-trade research
  • Partner with Head of Data and Analytics Products to make available core foundational data, both internal and external, to enable the creation of data products
  • Collaborate with the Head of Data Governance to create resilient and sustainable data analysis processes and data quality rules
  • Embed control protocols that govern the proliferation of data to ensure that data controls are enforced
  • Develop a deep understanding and alignment to LMI’s data governance framework and policy requirements
  • Design and develop out the integration of data assets into LMI’s Collibra data catalog integrated into the foundational data to enable self-service for search, discovery and delivery of data


  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in data analytics, reference data, data modeling, master data management in asset management
  • Strong understanding of the organization’s data needs in a high-growth and complex environment and ability to establish standards for data design and be able to drive change
  • Strong leadership and communication skills as well as the ability to influence key decision-makers and understand their points of view
  • Experience with portfolio data and master data management design and rollout in asset management
  • Understanding of investment data content, mapping strategies and implementing self-service consumption for data consumers in investment teams
  • Experience working within investment teams and understanding how value is created from financial time series data and analytics within the applicable asset classes
  • Demonstrated track record and hands-on experience in creating and implementing master data strategy, including outsourcing the function
  • Experience enabling golden sources of data ready for consumption from the cloud
  • Experience in building data models and/or working with Technology to create common data models to enable ease in analytics
  • Must be able to work effectively leading and providing direction to your offshore team as well as teams of data engineers in Technology
  • Be self-motivated, task oriented, and organized –able to develop strategy and execute to plan
  • Understand scalable data concepts, including data design and modelling, as well as working knowledge of python, SQL, BI tools (Excel, Power BI, Thoughtspot, etc) and Big data.
  • Familiarity with asset management in the insurance industry and related regulatory considerations a plus
  • Experience managing outsource partners and developing business cases and overseeing programs to outsource data operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field; Masters degree and/or CFA a plus
