True North Advisors is currently looking to hire an investment team member to join an existing team of seven investment professionals. The title could vary from Manager to Director based on qualifications. True North is an Independent RIA that manages endowment style investment allocations and runs an alternatives platform. This is a full-time role that reports to the Chief Investment Officer.

The ideal candidate would be a sharp individual with a passion for investments to support the needs of an institutional quality investment team at a growing firm. Candidates should be self-motivated and capable of managing projects and tasks independently while enjoying collaboration as part of a team. The role will be primarily focused on private/alternative markets with some exposure to public markets. A demonstrated investment interest and intuition are essential. True North invests across asset classes, geographies, styles, and public and private markets. As such, the candidate will need to exhibit a strong intellectual curiosity to learn about new industries, markets, and investment themes. This person should have a minimum of 7 years of experience and will have an opportunity to grow in responsibility and scope over time with the firm.

Primary Responsibilities Include

Manager Research and Portfolio Construction: Partnering with the rest of the investment team on the manager and investment due diligence across asset classes (private equity, hedge funds etc.), with a proven ability to both lead and assist new diligences as needs/experience dictate. Attending regular diligence meetings and calls with current and potential investment managers. Ad-hoc internal research requests.

Portfolio Management: Assisting with, or leading management of various portfolio sleeves, including Limited Partnership investments. Assisting with the management of periodic fund flows into LP investments, including allocation of cash and trading recommendations.

Investment Communications and Reporting: Assisting with creating and maintaining internal and external communications such as investment presentations, commentaries, and fact sheets.

Required Education, Skills & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; all degrees will be considered.
  • 7+ years of full-time investment experience at an MFO, RIA, endowment/foundation, or similar entity.
  • An ability to learn quickly with good communication skills, especially written.
  • An ability to ask questions, problem-solve creatively, and provide consultative ideas and suggestions.
  • Collaborative with a desire to work in teams.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, and comfort with learning analytical software systems.
  • Ability to exude the True North Values.
  • Must consent to and have a favorable credit report and background check.
