The COIO will act as the Chief of Staff for the Investment Office. They will collaborate with executive and senior leaders within the investment office and across the organization to develop investment policy, and implementation strategies and to facilitate communication. The COIO will work with the Investment Committee Chair and the CIO to prepare and review board materials ensuring effective communication.

The COIO will oversee the Investment Talent and Culture, and Investment Relations functions while operating as a centralized hub for INVO Projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leads, develops, and implements the infrastructure to foster positive communication necessary to support and execute on CalPERS investment and operational strategies in collaboration with the CIO and Deputy CIOs (DCIO, DCIOs) of Capital and Private Markets. This includes management of the following INVO functions: Talent & Culture, INVO Relations (Communications, Stakeholder Relations), and ad hoc investment and operational projects to support front, middle, and back-office functions which enable efficient and sustainable total fund portfolio management to generate risk-adjusted returns to pay benefits now and into the future to CalPERS members and their beneficiaries.
  • Work with the CIO, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Board President, and the Investment Committee Chair to lead and coordinate INVO and Board interaction including development of agendas, agenda items, and materials and ensures effective communication and presentations to Investment Committee members.
  • As a member of CalPERS Executive Staff, participate onsite or virtually in the formulation of CalPERS department-wide policy. Serves as a primary liaison with all other programs within CalPERS, including the financial office, legal office, enterprise risk, enterprise compliance, audit, health benefits, pension benefits, actuarial services, information technology, operations support services, and human resources.

Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.
