Securian Asset Management is seeking an experienced Investment professional who is looking to diversify their expereince to include a unique and relationship-based portfolio.

This position is integral to managing of Securian Asset Management’s alternative assets portfolios, and will be involved in the sourcing, diligence and monitoring of private market investments. Securian Asset Management manages a $1.1 B portfolio of diverse private markets assets.

The portfolio has a continuous 40-year history of investing in private equity, venture capital, private credit and infrastructure.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Sourcing and processing of 15-20 deals per year.

Lead the preparation of write-ups/investment recommendations.

Direct contact with general partners, placement agents and references/peers.

Maintain an active dialog with internal Securian Financial tax and accounting departments.

Manage portfolio administration and enterprise technology relationships pertaining to alternative investments.

Partnering with Portfolio Manager in the development of portfolio strategy.

Communicating portfolio strategy and portfolio/market insights.

Managing and making recommendations for Environmental Social Governance/impact investing, including low income housing tax credit investments.

Partners with analysts and Portfolio Managers in co-investment diligence and ongoing valuation.


Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

CFA, or willingness to pursue the designation

3+ years experience with alternative asset analysis/portfolio management or public/private securities analysis experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Technical, Information Systems or similar applicable concentration

Technical and/or operating background

Direct experience with alternative assets analysis/co-investment

Experience with ESG/impact investing

Securian Asset Management believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you’re in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you’ll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn’t feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.

Physical Job Requirements:

Ability to utilize the keyboard, computer and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day

Ability to work at least 40 hours per week

Ability to utilize the phone and/or virtual meeting platform for 1-4 hours per day

Ability to meet the physical demands of occasional traveling; this includes the ability to operate a motor vehicle as well as an ability to utilize air travel
